This is due to the fact that shipping serves as a lifeline for both islanders and visitors to Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands. The archipelago stretches approximately 768 km from north to south in the middle of the Bay of Bengal, and out of its 573 islands, only 37 are inhabited, with shipping services provided for about 29 of these. It is also important to note that tourists are not allowed to visit many of these islands.<\/p><p>To fully experience Andaman, it is essential for tourists to recognize the importance of the inter-island transport system. These thrilling journeys between different islands are a major highlight of an Andaman trip and are unmatched by any other tourist destination in India.<\/p><p>The entire shipping operation is controlled by \u2018The Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS)\u2019.
