Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (Wandoor, Port Blair)

The Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is located on the southern tip of South Andaman Island. The park covers an area of 281.5 square kilometers and is known for its rich biodiversity, both on land and underwater.

The park was established in 1983 and includes about 20 islands and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including mangroves, sea turtles, crocodiles, and a variety of fish and coral species. It is also home to several endangered species, including the dugong, a marine mammal similar to a manatee.

One of the main attractions of the park is the Jolly Buoy Island and Red Skin Island which are famous for its crystal-clear waters and colorful coral reefs. Visitors can enjoy snorkeling, glass-bottom boat rides and other activities to explore the underwater world.

Mount Manipur ((previously called as Mount Harriet))

Mount Manipur, the third-highest peak in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, is situated around 55 Km by road from Port Blair. To reach there, you can hire a taxi or take a private vehicle. The journey usually takes around 2-3 hours, depending on the traffic and road conditions. Mount Manipur can also be reached by taking a ferry from Chatham Island to Bambooflat and then a short journey by road to Mount Manipur.

Once you reach there, you can explore the Mount Manipur National Park, which is spread over a vast area and offers lush greenery, diverse flora and fauna, and scenic trails. The park is home to numerous bird species, butterflies, and wildlife. You can enjoy nature walks, birdwatching, and picnics amidst the serene surroundings.
