Campbell Bay & Campbell Bay National Park

The Campbell Bay National Park, situated on the north of Campbell Bay, spread over an area of around 426 Sq. Km., forms an integral part of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve. Campbell Bay National Park  is separated from the smaller Galathea National Park by a  forest buffer zone. Campbell Bay National Park showcases diverse flora such as tropical evergreen forest, tree ferns, and orchids, medicinal plants, while its fauna includes notable species like the Crab-eating macaque, giant robber crab, Nicobar megapode, saltwater crocodile and Nicobar pigeon.

In addition to its natural beauty, Campbell Bay also has historical significance. The region served as a strategic outpost during World War II and is home to remnants of Japanese bunkers and other war-related structures.

Restricted Access: On a report on ‘Hindustan Times’ newspaper dated May 21, 2023 it has been reported that “Campbell Bay is not a tribal area and entry of non-islanders was permitted here before. Its only being imposed in the past couple of months. The local administration, however, said access to Great Nicobar Island is permitted, but visit to tribal area requires pass as per regulations.”

Indira Point (Campbell Bay)

Galathea National Park (Campbell Bay)

Galathea National Park, located in Campbell Bay, is a national park in the Nicobar district of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The park is named after the Danish ship Galathea, which conducted scientific expeditions in the region in the 18th century. It was established in 1992 and covers an area of approximately 110 Sq. Km.
